Roman Funerary Rites for our Fish, Aeneas: a Pictorial

May 23, 2013 by Vicky Alvear Shecter 5 Comments

Aeneas the brave betta lived a heroic life
drifting aimlessly in circles.
But alas, as all mortals must, he went belly up.
So we set him ablaze to release his shade unto Hades’s domain.
To honor him, we held gladiatorial games
(see the crossed knife swords?).
The victor pulled an Odysseus and took
out his opponent’s eye.

A live-action look at the
heroic fight to the death:

AVE ATQUE VALE AENEAS!

This is amazing! And I appreciate the ruins of columns in the tank, too. Aeneas is a fortunate fish, even in death!

I love you completely for this! I was smiling, shaking my head with love, then I died and cackled when I hit “play” on the fight.
