Writers are introverts by nature, and it’s often hard for us to “get out there” and crow about our own work. That’s why I’m so grateful for my book club friends–without them, I would not have hosted a book launch event. But thanks to their insistence that the event should be celebrated, we had a party!
The book launch for The Cleansing was held at Tall Tales Books in Atlanta. My friends, many of whom are outstanding cooks, brought Italian-themed foods to share (yes, we try to coordinate the books we read with corresponding menus!). I spoke for a few minutes about the impetus for writing the book, took some questions and signed some books.
It ended up being a wonderful event and I can hear all my extroverted friends saying, “See? We told you it would be fun.” And it was.

The best part for me was having my kids there as we all as the rest of my family. They’ve had to listen to me talk about the travails of getting this book out into the world for years, after all! I’m also grateful to my museum friends who showed up. It’s always great to speak to friends who intuitively understand how the
ancient world holds up a mirror to the challenges we face today.
Thanks to Tall Tales Book Shop and my book club warriors who helped make the event happen. And oh, if you want to read about how pre-Christian beliefs about purity culture are still in play today–and how religious leaders manipulate fear to create scapegoats–then please pick up a copy of The Cleansing at your favorite independent bookstore. Or here. Or here.
Thanks again, friends!
